We’re honored to announce that we’ve won a Red Dot, Brands & Communication, Award with citizenM! The Red Dot Jury has voted the citizenM app as one of the best of 2021. 

Every year, the jury of the prestigious Red Dot Awards rewards the creative work and the best-designed projects of international businesses, designers and agencies. In order to appraise the diversity in the design field, the award distinguishes three different categories: Product Design, Brands & Communication Design, and Design Concept.

In 2018 Triple became the digital partner of citizenM hotels to help them reinvent their customer journey and better live up to the brand mission. The focus was on creating a frictionless user journey that embodied the playful and human DNA of the brand across all digital platforms. This resulted in a seamless user experience on the website, in-room tablet, check-in kiosk, and app at the center. 

citizenM lives up to its position as an innovative hotel by giving its guests total control of their stay. For example, guests can book a room themselves, check-in and out, open room doors, control the lights, blinds, and temperature, and order food via the app. By making the mundane tasks more efficient, guests save time for meaningful interactions and conversations. With the launch of the app in 2020, citizenM was the first hotel to create a contactless hotel experience.

A stand-out feature of the project is how the animation and color support the user experience and also translates the colorful interiors of the hotel into the digital realm. This really shows in the room controls which are truly one of a kind.

The journey can be picked up seamlessly on other touchpoints. An in-room tablet features room controls that pick up where you left things on your phone, all in the same familiar design. Finally, a curated city guide was added, allowing guests to discover not only the hotel but the entire city. Everything was designed and built with scalability in mind to accommodate citizenM’s sky-high ambitions for the future and also put a smile on the user’s face.

Besides the apps, we also help build citizenM’s website, optimize their tech stack, and host frequent strategy and design workshops to evolve the customer experience vision and roadmap.

Earlier this year, the mobile app of citizenM was rewarded with two golden Dutch Interactive Awards in the categories ‘brand’ and ‘service’. They were praised by the jury for their daring approach and the quick adaption of the contactless hotel experience, which was more relevant than ever during the Covid19-crisis.
